Character Development Strats
Modified By Apollonia on 10/24/2007 3:13:01 PM)

Being in beta has allowed me to try out several types of leveling methods and play around with the skill point allocation.  I have decided that even tho I am going medic, I will be putting initial  points into Firearms and recruit skills like Lightening.    TR is a RPG/shooter hybrid game and having the ability to do decent damage with our weapons is an important aspect of the game.  After weapons and Lightning I will be pumping: Decay, Lifeforce Funnel and Tools.  I will be putting the minimum in initial Armour.  After I hit 30 and Medic, I'll figure that out then.     As for crafting Imma wait and see after Ihit Medic.

Any want to share their character development strats?

Re: Character Development Strats

Took the words right out of my mouth Apollonia. i was just going to post the same. deff firearms lighning and some melee maybe. One other thing ive notice with attributes strength is pretty useless( ill boost it when i get close to gaurdian) but its mainly health and if they get past your armor you should be running away anyway :).

You might want to check out the TR Character builder under the links section...

I think this is probably what I will go for.

But I'm not sure I'm liking the way the polarity gun works at the moment. Anyone that has been using that give me a recommendation?

Re: Character Development Strats

Unfortunately I think the entire attribute system in TR is kind of broken at the moment. None of them have a big impact on how your character plays. I am hoping they realize and address this issue.

So, I've been playing both a soldier and a specialist/biotechnician in the game. I find that my biotech has a much harder time downing enemies. At level 15 or 16 now, and I still can't take out Rotting Sal or any of the Stalkers. My soldier is level 8 so I haven't really had a chance to try those mobs with him.

So basically, I'm going to start with a soldier but branch via cloning for several different characters. My strategy is going to be max firearms, because firearms will always be useful, maybe 3 points in lightening. I'm not going to put any points in armor except for the final armor that the character will be going to. I honestly hate the idea of putting points into armor thats going to become obsolete later on. Unfortunately this is one of the flaws of TRs progression system.

Also, with my biotech, I defintely feel like Decay is a waste of points. I'm also not that pleased with my injection gun, though its nice it does surpass armor, i prefer to kill enemies from far away.

Re: Character Development Strats

In beta I just spread my attribute points evenly around.  I will do so for the first 20 levels or so of live.  With cloning we can always go back if we mess up too badly:p
